Funky Fingers Glass Fleck Collection

I picked up this set at Five Below.  There may or may not be dupes in these from the Color Club Take Wing collection. The Funky Fingers polishes are named after fairy tale and princess-y type stuff.  This set consists of five glass fleck sort of polishes. I used Orly Bonder and Brucci Nail Dryer for all of the swatches.

Prince Charming - Mirror, Mirror, Pixy Dust, Kiss the Girl - Belle

Prince Charming was the sheerest of the bunch needed a total of 4 coats.

"Natural" Light
"Natural" Light
Bottle Macro
Not only was it the sheerest, it's the most difficult to describe. There are hints of blue and pink in there too.  And it's a bit glowy! The macro shot of my nail captures best what you can really see in real life.  It's got multi-dimensions to it. It loses points though for being a 4-coater, but you could probably get away with three.

Mirror, Mirror is a fun, vivacious blue that also is a bit glowy.  This is only 2 coats of polish in these pictures but I think if I applied slightly thicker coats that the bare spots or VNL you might be seeing would be eliminated.
"Natural" Light

I was thinking this could possibly be a dupe for Color Club Sky High but upon closer inspection, I'm not so sure.

"Natural" Light
This one did stain though, just a warning.

"Natural" Light

Pixy Dust, which I think is a nod at Tinker Bell, is the second sheerest out of this collection. This is 3 coats and could've used a fourth. I didn't really like how it looked on me that much. I'm sure there's an audience for this color, I'm just not a part of it.

The next one, Kiss the Girl, is my favorite from this set.  Not just because it's pink, but the formula is incredible.  This is ONE coat of Kiss the Girl.  Out of all of them, this one has the most "glowy", least "metallic" look. It was slightly difficult to photograph. It behaved like a neon when I tried capturing it.

Belle is the one I thought I'd like the least but it actually is pretty impressive for a yellow.  It's a direct reference to the Disney princess, Belle from Beauty and the Beast and I think they nailed it.  I stopped at 3 coats here. For as fun as this color is, I'm surprised I don't have one like it already.

"Natural" Light

I'm pretty sure this is a dupe for Color Club Daisy Does It.

"Natural" Light
Yeah, it looks pretty bad on me but it's such a cool color. I love yellow so much, just wish I could wear it.

So my overall take on these is that they're pretty awesome.  I got all of these for $9 and I'm pretty impressed with some of them. I'll run down their qualities again.

Prince Charming: Super sheer 4 coater with lots of depth.
Mirror, Mirror: Opaque 2 coater that stains.
Pixy Dust: Sheer green at 3 coats, not the best color.
Kiss the Girl: Super opaque one coat wonder that glows.
Belle: Decent opacity at 3 coats for a yellow. Has a CC dupe.

Don't Paint Your Nails With the A/C Running.

I know it's bad news but I did it anyways. And now they're a mess and I've got to redo them.

This is three coats of Revlon Sunshine Sparkle over Orly Bonder and sealed with Out the Door. I thought it dried OK at first but oh it's a hot mess.  I got lobster hands too, but not in real life.. only in photos.

They aren't supposed to be textured!! Bubbles, bubbles everywhere! I sit about 3 feet from my window A/C unit, I should've known better. I don't know why I painted them anyways, I could've turned it off. Pssh.

Sally Hansen Hard Lemonade

Another yellow for you guys! I just looooooooooove yellow. It's so happy, sunshiney. I can't wear it in clothing as it washes me out but I'll wear it on my nails.  I always overlook Sally Hansen because I've seen them a thousand times but I'm glad I took a second look at Hard Lemonade.

"Natural" Light

This is four coats (can't expect much from a yellow) over Orly Bonder sealed with Out the Door.  When I first used it, it was super runny but from leaving it open to paint my nails, it thickened a bit, I think.  I was able to do only three coats on my right hand.

There is a super subtle shimmer in here.  You can't see it very well at first but once you know it's there, you can't not see it.

Maybelline Banana Puddin'

AHHHHHHHHHHH. I love this color. It's my favorite shade of yellow and for it to be in polish form is just perfect. It's so sheer though, it builds at around 4 coats but it is so pretty I don't even really care.  I received this from a dear friend on my nail forum for Easter - how perfect!

Yea, it took 4 coats, but it is an older polish and the formula is sheer and runny a bit.  My index finger looks gloppy because I smudged it and then tried to fix it, well you see how well I did that, hahaha.

Ugliest Color of the Season: Champagne Bubbles

China Glaze Champagne Bubbles has got to be one of the fugliest colors I've seen in a long time.  Some people love it, some people hate it.  I hate it. It's comically ugly though. I'd imagine this would look nice on the hands of someone with a dark complexion.  Tan skin, with olive undertones.  This doesn't work on my pasty ass. No no no.

Champagne Bubbles in all its fuglory.

This is three coats over CND Stickey sealed with a coat of OTD.  It's some kind of bizarre yellow/golden frost with bits of silver glitter.  My black camera is reflected in the mirror-esque glitter so it looks black, but it isn't.  It's not cute.

Still ugly.
.So I tried to save it and see what might look nice over it.  Turns out nothing really looks *nice* over it.

Champagne Bubbles is not for this white girl.  Oh no no no.

citrus inspired fimo manicure

My love for yellow is growing and growing.  I did a citrus inspired manicure yesterday and loved it! On to the pics!

4 Coats "Bad Kitty" SH Complete Salon Manicure
1 Coat "Rock Out" Maybelline Salon Expert and SH TC

My two little fimo slices (=
Are those limes or lemons? I don't know. But I'm going with citrus. I used a drop of nail glue and then used my cuticle pusher to help hold them flat until they dried.  This nail did not have "Rock Out" on it.  The fimo hardened really nice with the topcoat over it.  They remind me of those pencil top erasers, I used to have them shaped like lemon, lime and orange slices xD

The sparkles show a little better here.  They look more white
without the flash.  Silver shows with flash.

Refreshing!

its sunday night already? really?

Uhhhh back to the grind tomorrow.  This weekend FLEW. Mostly because it was so fun (=  I have a sunshiney manicure to go along with the happy thoughts.

A few things worth mentioning: this is only my 2nd bottle of this brand/style/collection.  The insta-dri bottles are fug.  Doesn't matter though, since I owe a TON of Funky Fingers polishes and they're TERRIBLY UGLY.  The coverage was great! Streaks were easy to correct.

"Lightening" 3 coats.

Strange spelling. I guess it isn't supposed to be 'lightning' as much as it is the action to 'lighten'.  If it was up to me, I'd name this "BIG FRICKIN' DAISY". It reminds me of yellow daises, in a big frickin' way.  I've worn this twice since I got it a few weeks ago, which says a lot.  It's like the total-package yellow.  Light, cooler yellows don't fly well on me.  But the goldeny sunshine yellows look much better. Yellow is one of my favorite colors, second to pink, and I am glad I can wear it on my nails.  I am blonde and fair skinned so yellow clothing usually washes me out.  I'll take what I can get!

GAUDY.

I love the costume jewelry craze.  I got this for my sister as a possible birthday present, but she didn't want it because it wasn't "bedazzled" enough, so I kept it. Love!

And this weekend me and the boy decided to travel over to Pennsylvania and do some shopping (which he loves to do more than me) as well as some sightseeing. We hit up a flea market and I got a cutesy purse, wallet and phone case. And by sightseeing, I mean real sights. Look:

Breathtaking!

It was about 89 degrees with ABSURD humidity.  The walkways were steaming, but I had a great time.  A great weekend and a great day spent with my lovey.  Can't ask for much more (=

yellow rainbow and ladybug mani

LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE yellow.  I was fiddling with my yellows and thought I would show them to you.

Bundle Monster plate 13
Eek dry skin! Sorry, I took this right after I got out of the shower and removed it before I checked the photos, so this is the best I could do given those circumstances.  The cuteness factor should totally override the dryness factor though.  I used Wet N Wild "Black Creme" and "Red Red" for stamping.  An impatient me evidently applied the topcoat too soon.  There was some streaking which I should have known better to avoid. sadsad.

My yellow skittles (=

3 coats of each.
I can't decide what I like best.  Warm golden tones like "Sundancer" are always enticing to me, but the brightness of "Lightening" is really summery and fun.  "Unicorn" and "Yellow Kitty" are softer which remind me more of springtime and as mentioned a few posts before, "Cayman Island" is pretty (to me) only under specific lighting.

Anyways, which is your favorite yellow swatched here?  What about your all time favorite yellow?

funky fingers "cayman island" scented polish

Yellow: the double edged sword of nailpolishes.  So pretty in the bottle, but rarely looks nice on my skin tone and has terrible application. I am always instantly drawn to the yellow bottles but tend to steer clear. And once again, I am reminded why.

Five coats of Funky Fingers "Cayman Island"

Excuse the blurry at the bottom. I'm working with a different camera and I think one of two things occurred: me setting the focus wrong or condensation on the lens. Either way you get the basic idea of this polish.  Some nails required 6 coats due to streaking and impossible touchdown marks.

Yellow shimmery sheer with green shimmers.

It is a sheer polish too, that also being the reason it needed so many coats.  It is also scented - but not Revlon gag-inducing scented.  This polish has a light, refreshing lemon-y scent to it, but it really very very subtle. (Which is a good thing! Revlon's blueberry scented polish triggered an 8 hour migraine for me.)

Click to enlarge to see the green shimmers.

The photo directly above captured the green shimmers pretty well. In indoor lighting the color gets lost on my hands and doesn't POP like it does in sunlight. This photo is a more accurate representation of what the color looks like most of the time. It is pretty, I think that is pretty undeniable, but it isn't for me. I probably won't ever use this again.

As far as my skin goes, in order to keep the eczema at bay, I have been avoiding the rubber gloves at work as much as possible.  Only in cases of #2 diapers and blood do I put them on. I haven't decided if the constant washing has been aggravating it, but the absence of the powder from the gloves has certainly made my hands less irritated and very few cracking incidences.

update & a franken

Every once in a while life comes along and kicks you back into reality.  Out of the nail polish world and everything else that brings you happiness, it grabs you by the shoulders and shakes you HARD.  Mostly, I've been dedicated a lot of myself to school, my very very sick little kitty, family and friends.  My nails are still in pretty decent condition, minus a few minor breaks and such.  They're still always painted, just typically things I've done already.  Money has been tight in reference to the vet bills so I haven't bought many new things at all, polish included.  Blogging here makes me happy, and is a positive distraction - I need to remember that.  Plus its springtime now, which means dad is fishing.  Which mean dad brings his camera with him.. which means its usually in his car in or his man cave.  I forget to snap a few pictures when it's not sitting in front of me!

Here is an old post from my back logs that I accidentally skipped over.

I haven't named this one yet!  But is it the exact color of a hard boiled egg yolk.  The bottle is round, so it really looks like one!
All out of  Lemon Fizz! I need another bottle!
I absolutely LOVE that color.
The holo shimmers are SUPER subtle.
Also, sorry Britty & Coryn - I know you always read these and have been wondering what's up! I just haven't had it in me lately.
