Cupcakes for Lilacs!

My friend Dani sent me an amazing homemade franken that I just can't get enough of.  I usually have problems with glitters but her mix was perfect and wore so wonderfully on me. It's adorable and perfect and just lovely!

"Natural" Light

My giant hand and the tiny bottle makes it look even more comical.

"Natural" Light
This is one coat of Cupcakes for Lilacs over two coats of b.s.n. "Smooth Cloth". Yes, that is its name. It's some whacky dollar store brand with names that I'm convinced were picked out of a hat. But the colors matched so nicely and I don't want to waste Cupcakes for Lilacs so this was a good combination. Over Orly Bonder and sealed with NYC GCS.

I'm not sure where else these are sold, I've never seen them or heard of them outside my local dollar store.  They're surprisingly not bad for a dollar.  They're most definitely NOT B3F as they have a strong scent but they wear decently, cover pretty nicely and are only a dollar.  I've noticed certain ones smell worse than others, "Smooth Cloth" was pretty mild.

My Autumnal Franken: Cornucopia

I thought I had posted this ages ago, evidently I did not. I was probably waiting for Fall weather. But the East Coast skipped Fall and went straight to Winter. Yea, we had a white Halloween.

I don't remember the proportions for this at all, I mixed it until it resembled the idea I had in my head.  I do, however, know what I used to make it.

Klean Color: Red Hot, Tiara Gold, Chunky Copper
Orly: Life's a Peach
Sinful Colors: Call You Later
WnW: Cougar Attack

Red Hot and Cougar Attack where both glitters that had tinted jelly bases.  Red Hot had a red very sheer jelly base while Cougar Attack had a charcoal, almost black jelly base.  I used Life's a Peach (an orange shimmer) to try and balance it out to a more brown base.

Macro bottle shot.
I have it layered over two different polishes in these pictures.  The first is Avon Vintage Boutique, which is a chocolatey creme and ridiculously shiny.

Two coats, no TC.

Then I put two coats of Cornucopia with one coat of OTD TC.

I also have it over WnW Private Viewing:

Franken "Hot Pink Aurora" :D

I wanted to make a nail polish that reminded me of my blog's name.  I don't even really remember why I picked this name, aside from liking pink and loving auroras.  But I had a vision. And I executed it with my newest franken!

"Hot Pink Aurora" macro bottle shot.

My thought process while making this was to have a pink based jelly polish with a absolute crapload of glitters.  I wanted to incorporate a color that would also compliment that, so I added some blue glitter aside from the holo bits and silvers.  I mixed a ton of my favorite glitters, sparse holo topcoats and a foil to achieve this.

3 coats of "Hot Pink Aurora"
All photos are 3 coats with SH Insta Dri TC.

The large blue hex glitter was sticking to the sides of the bottle and I only managed to fish one out.  You can see its embedded on my pinky.  I was hoping to get more out, so I don't know if I am going to add more or just take it for what it is - what do you think?

Here is what I used:

Pink glitter has no sticker on it, so I don't know the name.
The blue nail art is is simply named "Blue Glitter"

I used this red jelly and berry jelly to tint it to pink.

As you can see, I used a bunch of different glitters so I only used a little bit of each.  Doing that ended up creating a unique end result, I feel.  The only adjustments I am thinking of making is possibly adding some ChG "Bad Kitty" and a little more B.S.N "Ocean Jewel". Thoughts?!

update & a franken

Every once in a while life comes along and kicks you back into reality.  Out of the nail polish world and everything else that brings you happiness, it grabs you by the shoulders and shakes you HARD.  Mostly, I've been dedicated a lot of myself to school, my very very sick little kitty, family and friends.  My nails are still in pretty decent condition, minus a few minor breaks and such.  They're still always painted, just typically things I've done already.  Money has been tight in reference to the vet bills so I haven't bought many new things at all, polish included.  Blogging here makes me happy, and is a positive distraction - I need to remember that.  Plus its springtime now, which means dad is fishing.  Which mean dad brings his camera with him.. which means its usually in his car in or his man cave.  I forget to snap a few pictures when it's not sitting in front of me!

Here is an old post from my back logs that I accidentally skipped over.

I haven't named this one yet!  But is it the exact color of a hard boiled egg yolk.  The bottle is round, so it really looks like one!
All out of  Lemon Fizz! I need another bottle!
I absolutely LOVE that color.
The holo shimmers are SUPER subtle.
Also, sorry Britty & Coryn - I know you always read these and have been wondering what's up! I just haven't had it in me lately.

franken "MISCHIEF"

I made another franken this weekend.  I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome.  Sometimes mixing polishes can be a bit of a crapshoot and I have made my share of formulas that just don't work.  It's nice to get a decent one (=

Three coats of "Mischief"
I used a super cheapo bottle which has a really weird brush but the formula was decent enough to not suffer from my carelessness.

Ingredients:
L.A. Colors (has a name but I don't know it) Purple Jelly
L.A. Colors "Jewel Tone"
L.A. Colors "Live"
Unnamed Funky Fingers
This is approximately equal parts.  Definitely click to enlarge, there is a lot of detail that is destroyed with the photos compressing.

& then I added "Live" on the tips.
It played nicely since it -is- an ingredient!
Bonus freehandy-lines I added to "Choose Me!"

A Franken - Tippytoes (pic heavy!)

I think I am going to officially name all of my frankens after My Little Ponies.  Why the hell not, it is so much easier!  So I really love this one, but have you ever been sitting there mixing colors and have an "aha!" moment of perfection and then realize you basically all ready have that color?  I did.  I basically re-created China Glaze's "For Audrey" with a slight hue change and some glitter.  But I'm keeping it!

"Tippytoes"
It's a *little* more green.  And you can see the glitter better in the bottle than on the nail.  It's VERY subtle!

So then, as usual, I thought "You know what would be PERFECT over this? HIDDEN TREASURE!" So yea, I shlapped it on.

Outdoor - indirect sunlight
Outdoor - direct sunlight
DROOL.
I usually don't take pictures outdoors unless it will really benefit the color and show all the details.  Hidden Treasure is most certainly one of those colors to capture in the sun!  Oh it made it perfect.  Every once in a while I do something I like, and every once in a while I do something I hate.  This time, I LOVE it. Love love love.

Ingredients:
Funky Fingers "Wild Child"
Sinful Colors "Unicorn"
L.A. Colors "Energy Source"
Icing "Starlight"
Pure Ice "Don't You Wish"

And in true "Cathryn Form", I have NO idea of the recipe as I just mixed until I found something I liked.  Sorry, I'm good for that.

OK SO THIS IS IRRELEVANT BUT LISTEN UP.  Anyone grow up in the 80's or early 90's?  There is this website, Ghost of the Doll, which archived all of the girly toys released in those years.  I literally had a nostalgia freak out when I discovered this site.  It has pictures, years released, photos and more details about each toy than you can even comprehend.  If you're anything like me, the next 3 hours of your life will be spent on that site wishing you were a child again.  In which case I'm Sorry or You're Welcome, LOL!
